Stephanie Overby of CIO.com shares what industry insiders predict to be the offshore destinations to loom large when it comes to outsourcing IT services this 2010.
As world economies recover from recession this year, it is expected that many multinationals will develop many off-shore locations for outsourcing services.
These companies will continue to supplement their business with service contracts in established destinations like India and Philippines while cultivating possible business connections in emerging destinations in Africa and South America.

Outsourcing – India IT needs to Reboot

Industry officials, analysts and other experts are in agreement that India’s IT sector, which had shown monstrous growth until last year’s crisis period, is unlikely to return to ‘business as usual’.

Outsourcing – Cebu cements ties with India

A street at Asia Town, IT Park in Lahug, Cebu City was named after India, inaugurated last 29 December 2009 as part of the anniversary celebration on the establishment of the Philippines-India Diplomatic Relations.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo proclaimed the month of November 2009 as “Philippines-India Friendship Month”.
Signed on 23 October 2009 in Malacañang Palace, Presidential Proclamation No. 1924 is in observance of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with India on 16 November 1949.
Seven years after India achieved independence in 1947, the Philippines and India signed a Treaty of Friendship on 11 July 1952 in Manila to strengthen friendly relations. By November 1949, the Philippine Legation in New Delhi was established and then elevated to an Embassy.
The naming of the street was previously proposed by Francisco Benedicto, The Philippines’ Ambassador to India, and was confirmed by the Cebu City Council in a resolution.

Outsourcing – Philippines Strong this 2009

Despite the financial troubles that gripped Western economies and the natural calamities like typhoons that rocked the region, the Philippines and its economy has remained resilient.
The possible reason behind such resilience is how strong and stable the country’s banking system serves as a solid ground for the Philippine economic landscape.
Not only the Philippines but other Asia-Pacific nations report having a better ‘climate’ in terms of economy than their Western counterparts, with more positive results in providing products and services.
