AT Kearney missed the mark in global rankings index

Global consulting firm A.T. Kearney placed the Philippines further down, rank #9, in terms of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) attractiveness in its Global Locations Index 2011, citing that the fallout from the financial crisis shook up the rankings, as once-expensive countries moved up.
An industry insider in the outsourcing sector of the Philippines would like to disagree.

Davao and BPO

Davao City is on its way to become one of the Philippines‘ major business process outsourcing (BPO).
The city is currently home to about a dozen BPO companies. The employment figure for Davao’s BPO industry was projected to increase to 35,000 by 2015.
Davao city’s capability to host BPOs, given its favorable telecommunications and infrastructure systems, would be showcased again in March 200 when 60 chief operating officers (CEOs) of major BPO firms converge here for their CEO Forum.
Davao’s City CEO Forum is an annual activity being conducted by heads of leading BPO firms, a venue for the to assessment of their respective operations and the general overview of Davao’s BPO industry.

CanCham sets up office in Cebu

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) sets up office in Cebu, to strengthen trade relations, investment and labor mobility between Canada and Cebu.
The chamber is a non-profit organization established in 1989 whose mission is to “represent, support, and promote Canada-Philippines business interests.” It provides information, expert briefings on trade and investments issues and networking events for its members and the public.
The CanCham local chapter in Cebu will expand commercial relations between Canadian and Cebu-based businesses and investors. Its CanCham’s conviction that there is a great potential for growth in two-way trade and investment between the two countries.
