The Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (CanCham) sets up office in Cebu, to strengthen trade relations, investment and labor mobility between Canada and Cebu.

The chamber is a non-profit organization established in 1989 whose mission is to “represent, support, and promote Canada-Philippines business interests.” It provides information, expert briefings on trade and investments issues and networking events for its members and the public.

The CanCham local chapter in Cebu will expand commercial relations between Canadian and Cebu-based businesses and investors. Its CanCham’s conviction that there is a great potential for growth in two-way trade and investment between the two countries.

The chamber’s priority sectors are identified as food and agribusiness; information and communications technology and business process outsourcing; labor mobility; finance and remittance; environment and natural resources; renewable energy; and mining.

Aside from these priority sectors, CanCham will conduct economic briefings to discuss business trends and issues helpful to the Cebu business community. The chamber will also give briefings on export financing and employment opportunities in Canada.

The Philippines is one of the main providers of workers to Canada. The country now has about 500,000 Filipino workers.

CanCham Cebu chapter has already 60 members and its office is the chamber’s first local chapter outside Metro Manila. The CanCham office is located at the Ayala-FGU Center.
