The Philippines sets new heights in the global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) arena—the healthcare information management (HIM) sector.

The country prepares to be a leading destination for various outsourcing in health information management for many leading markets, including Canada, Europe and the United States.

Current health reforms and EMR implementation in many countries create career opportunities for local nurses and medical professionals as more functions are outsourced in the revenue cycle management involving specialized skills in healthcare, both on the provider and payer sides.

Just recently, the Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Services Congress 2011 (HIMOSC 2011) was held, bringing together BPO companies, providers, payers, regulators, academe, associations and professionals to discuss the Philippines’ capability and how to best promote the Philippines as the outsourcing destination of choice for healthcare information management services.

With the theme, “Driving Sustainable and Dynamic Business Growth in the Philippines through Education and Innovation”—the conference tackled the opportunities and challenges to better position the Philippines to receive a significant market share in global HIM.

The Philippines has gained good strides in international visibility during the 83rd AHIMA Conference and Exhibit on October 1 to 6, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the Philippine capability in HIM outsourced services— such as medical transcription, coding and billing, pharmacy benefits management, electronic medical records (EMR) solution, medical research, etc –was showcased.
