The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)of the Philippines is confident that the country is on the right track on improving its competitiveness rank in the world.

Swiss-based World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report 2010-2011 showed that the Philippines’ has ranked 83rd, up four notches from last year, out of 139 other economies.

The latest ranking was based on a January to May 2010 worldwide survey of executives’ perceptions and hard data measuring various 2009 indicators.

Out of the 12 factors of competitiveness, the Philippines was reported to have notably improved in the three areas, macro-economic environment, strength and efficiency of financial markets and the sophistication of businesses.

Business groups in the Philippines is poised to achieve more gains in the competitiveness ranking. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) also report the business sector had been very confident that higher economic goals will soon be achieved.

The Philippines can jump to higher ranks of global competitiveness in World Economic Forum’s survey, if the criteria also indexes the competitiveness of companies operating in the economic zones in the country.
