The fourteenth President of the Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo travels the Philippines on her Cyber-Corridor Tour, inspecting the current condition’s of the nation’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.

The Cyber Corridor is a milestone-project of the President.

Cebu City, Contributor to Cyber Corridor

The tour includes Baguio, Metro Manila, Clark, Davao and of course, Cebu City– which Arroyo cited in her State of the Nation Address as a major contributor to the growth of the BPO industry in the country.

From Mactan International Airport, Cebu– the President will head directly to the Asiatown Infotech Park. Once developed as an airport, this 23-hectare property is the flagship project of Cebu Property Ventures and Development Corp. as the first IT Park accredited by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Asiatown IT Park houses 44 IT, IT-enabled and BPO companies which directly employs 13,500 workers and an estimated 5,000 workforce for support services.

The President with the acting-mayor of Cebu will proceed to the Qualfon Quality Contact Services to view and interact with applicants. She will also be toured to the training, demonstration rooms and facilities.

A briefing on IT developments in Cebu City by the Cebu Educational Development Foundation will follow then The President will hold a press conference after an audio-visual presentation on the President’s IT Milestone Legacy and Accomplishments.

Meanwhile in Manila

Last February 2, UST Global opened an offshore development center at Manila. The facility focuses on serving clients in the United States, Canada and Europe.

The California-based IT services & solutions firm UST Global is an affiliate of the Comcraft Group. It presently has a 7,000-strong global workforce with captive facilities in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Chennai and Bangalore in India.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also attended the inauguration of the UST Global Manila facility, which plans to hire 1,100 IT professionals over a year’s time.
